This report showcases results of an online survey conducted on behalf of Stride Health by Mastercard, highlighting the financial challenges faced by many of the over 60 million independent workers in America.

• Even as the modern workforce booms, this study shows the major extent to which independent workers are left vulnerable to financial challenges such as managing everyday expenses and preparing for long-term financial security, all while experiencing income volatility and securing their own benefits.

• The findings point to the many ways in which the current benefits system has failed to evolve alongside the workforce. Hardworking independent workers, who are gig economy workers, contractors, creative freelancers, entrepreneurs, and people with side hustles, should have access to affordable, comprehensive benefits.
