5 Ways Uber Drivers Can Make More Money

Whether you work for Uber as a side job, or you drive full time, you'll want to maximize how much you make. We've gathered our top tips to on ways Uber drivers can make more money, so start reading and start making more money with each ride!

#1: Add a Tip Sign

Uber lets passengers tip their drivers on the app, but 60 percent of riders never tip. That’s because once riders hop out of your vehicle, they often forget to check their app. It’s up to you to politely remind your passengers that tips for great service can go a long way. Add a seat-back sign that says something like:

“Tips are not included or required, but they sure are appreciated!”

We also like this pre-made sign available for purchase from Etsy. Simple tip signs let passengers know that you’re working hard to provide a great experience.

#2: Start Answering Surveys

Make your downtime between trips more productive! Sites like Google Opinions or Swagbucks pay you to complete quick surveys. You can start earning up to $2 per survey; this extra cash adds up fast, especially when you’d otherwise be killing that time on the internet or playing games.

#3: Spruce Up Your People Skills

To earn tips and positive ratings, you need to provide a top-notch experience. This means:

  • DO: Greet passengers by name and with a friendly “Hello!”

  • DO: Provide a comfortable environment by engaging with passengers who want to chat.

  • DON’T: Keep talking to your passenger if it seems like they want to be left alone.

  • DON’T: answer calls or talk on the phone while you drive (that’s rude!)

  • DON’T: smoke in the car before picking someone up. You may not notice the smell, but your passengers will… we promise!

  • DON’T: have a strong air freshener or wear intense cologne / perfume.

#4: Keep That Car Clean

A dirty vehicle or garbage left behind by passengers can seriously impact your rating. Remember: a great experience leads to better tips! Consider purchasing a car trash can and handheld vacuum to keep things tidy without requiring frequent (money and time-wasting!) trips to the car wash. Also, keep your vehicle clutter-free. The only things that should be out in the open are passenger essentials, like new water bottles and an aux cord.

#5: Get a Dash Cam

All Uber drivers should have a dash cam. Passengers can misbehave, cause damage, or make false claims against you – all of which lead to you losing opportunities to drive and earn money. Dash cams provide evidence that protects you from losing hard-earned cash and helps you get reimbursed for damages. Plus, passengers tend to be on better behavior when they know they’re being recorded!

An extra benefit to having a dash cam? You won’t need to worry about finding a witness if you’re ever in an accident. By documenting your driving, your dash cam footage will prove your side of the story and ensure you’re safe from insurance headaches if the accident wasn’t your fault.
