Celebrating Black History Month with Strider Jasmin Hinnant-Kornegay

Jasmin is Stride’s Senior HR Business Partner. In honor of Black History Month, she’s sharing a bit of her story with us.

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you ended up at Stride?

I’m Jasmin Hinnant-Kornegay, and I am a Sr. HRBP at Stride. I live in New Jersey with my husband and our puppy, Tyson. I ended up at Stride after an employee reached out to me on LinkedIn and thought that my experience and interests would be a good fit for the People team. After doing some research, I learned that the company aligned with my hopes for accessibility in health care, and I was super excited to be a part of the mission.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy traveling, going on walks with my family, and watching reality television. I also love to read. My goal for this year is to read two to three books a month.

What does Black History Month mean to you?

Black History Month is a reminder of my community's past and how far we’ve come. It’s also a reminder that I am strong, powerful, and a part of a community that has and continues to invent, influence, and shape culture every day.

Who (or what) were your biggest role models and influences growing up?

My biggest role models are my parents and my aunt. They are extremely hard-working and selfless. Outside of my family, I look up to the resilience and creativity of women like Quinta Brunson and Issa Rae. They’ve come so far from where they started, and it’s a reminder to never give up on your dreams.

What is a personal mantra or quote that resonates with you?

“Seek the wisdom that will untie your knot. Seek the path that demands your whole being.” — Rumi.

What makes you most proud to be a member of the Black community?

I am most proud of our resilience and humor. As a community, we tend to always find light in a situation.
