2021 Health Insurance: Key Dates and Deadlines

Great news—there’s still time to enroll in health insurance for 2021. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the deadline to enroll in health insurance for 2021 has been extended. This allows you and your family to enroll in a health insurance plan for 2021, whether you’re currently enrolled in a health plan or not.

2021 Deadlines for Health Insurance Coverage

Through August 15, you can enroll in health insurance for coverage starting on the first of the following month. While the deadline extension ends August 15th, you can think of each month as a mini deadline to get coverage starting the very next month. The deadlines are as follows:

  • Enroll by June 30th for coverage starting July 1st

  • Enroll by July 31st for coverage starting August 1st

  • Enroll by August 15th for coverage starting September 1st

In addition to this extended enrollment period, the American Rescue Plan Act was also introduced to help make health insurance even more affordable by introducing additional savings. With the expansion of the Affordable Care Act thanks to the ARPA, four out of five enrollees will be able to pay $10 or less per month for health insurance. Put simply, if you already qualified for savings before, you qualify for even more savings now; if you didn’t previously qualify for savings, you likely will now.
